Security incidents happen all the time. And they can happen to anyone – big or small. How you respond to an incident is what matters.

Preparation is the key to successful incident response. You can never stop all attempts to breach your company, and in real situations, people are bound to make mistakes. Therefore, you need to have the proper processes in place, and of course, try to stop as many of the attempted attacks as possible to leave less room for human error.

The six key steps to proper incident response are:

  1. Prepare
  2. Detect
  3. Respond
  4. Analyze
  5. Learn
  6. Improve
